Privacy Policy
In effect 1 July 2026 · Evergreen Points Pty Ltd (ABN 00 000 000 000)
01Our commitment
Evergreen Points Pty Ltd ("Evergreen Points", "we" or "us") treats your privacy as part of the trust that makes this guide worth reading. This policy explains, without jargon, how we handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
By browsing this site or contacting us through our forms, you accept the practices described here. If they don't sit right with you, we'd ask that you not submit personal information to us.
02What we gather
We collect only what a small editorial studio genuinely needs. Depending on how you reach us, that can include:
- Details you hand us directly — your name, email and, if you like, a phone number;
- Whatever you write in an enquiry, tip or piece of feedback;
- Your stated travel interests and newsletter preference;
- Ordinary technical data your browser sends — IP address, device, and the pages you open.
We do not seek sensitive information, and our services are intended for adults aged 18 and over.
03Why we use it
Your information helps us to:
- Reply to you and prepare the recommendations you ask for;
- Send our monthly Margin Notes newsletter, where you've opted in;
- Understand and improve how the guide is read;
- Protect the site and meet our legal obligations.
We won't quietly repurpose your details for something unrelated without asking, unless the law allows or requires it.
04Cookies & analytics
Our site uses a small number of cookies to remember preferences and to help us see, in aggregate, which writing resonates. Any analytics we use is configured to avoid identifying you personally.
You're free to block or clear cookies in your browser at any time; a few conveniences may stop working, but the guide will still read fine. We never sell cookie or analytics data.
05Sharing
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only where necessary:
- With trusted providers — email and hosting services — that operate under confidentiality terms;
- Where the law compels us, such as a valid request from a court or regulator;
- To protect the rights, property or safety of Evergreen Points, our readers or the public.
Where a provider stores data offshore, we take reasonable steps to keep it handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
06Storage & removal
We keep personal information only as long as it serves the purposes above, or as the law requires, after which we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.
Ask to leave the newsletter and we'll remove you promptly, keeping only the minimum record needed to respect your choice.
07Keeping it safe
We use sensible technical and organisational safeguards — encrypted connections and restricted access among them — to protect against loss, misuse and unauthorised access.
No online system is ever perfectly secure, so we can't promise absolute protection. Please guard your own devices and accounts as well.
08Your choices
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you may:
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- Ask us to correct anything wrong or out of date;
- Withdraw consent to marketing whenever you wish;
- Raise a concern if you feel we've mishandled your information.
Contact us and we'll respond within a reasonable time. If you're still unsatisfied, you may approach the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
